In fact, there are no “best” headphones for ASMR, there are only headphones suiting your personal listening preferences. For myself, I usually wear my iPhone in-ear headphone while I’m searching or selecting new ASMR resources, because iPhone’s headphone is good for me to better catch the tingles, while I prefer to wear the CozyPhones’ sleep headphone when just want to have a good sleep with my favorite ASMR sounds, since it’s much more comfortable than in-ear headphones. One more important thing for having a good ASMR experience is to listen the sounds with a peaceful mind under a quiet environment.

Whatever, if you are new to the ASMR world, or if you just want to for example switch from in-ear headphones to over-ear headphones, but have no idea which one to choose, then this guide may give you some references. I’m going to show you the differences, among in-ear, on-ear and over-ear headphone, and their pros and cons as for an ASMR headphone. And you will find my best recommendations for ASMR sleep headphones in the second part. Let’s begin, and just feel free to let me know your opinions in the comment section.

Note: Keep in mind that sounds can be harmful when they are too loud and long-lasting, so it’s better to active the shut-off timer before getting into sleep. Plus, make sure the surroundings are safe, or you might put yourself in danger while you’re in deep sleep, although the probability is slim.

In summary

Portability:

In-Ear headphones are the most portable headphone type. Easy to carry in pockets or bags. If you want to enjoy your ASMR sounds while flying, or traveling, they can be the best choices. But if you just want to immerse into the ASMR sound cozily on bed at your home, over-ear headphones are your best choices without doubt. Manufactures even made headphones (I think they should be sorted to over-ear headphone type) exclusive for ASMR, which I will make detailed introductions in the next part.

Comfort:

It’s hard to find a pair of in-ears that will fit you very well, while wearing a pair of comfortable over-ear headphones is like snuggling up with a warm blanket. If you stick to choose in-ear headphones, you can consider the ones which utilize memory foam or Comply ear-tips, rather than hard plastic or silicon, and find the right size for you.

Denoise:

In-Ear headphones block out the outside noise excellently since it fills completely the ear canal. Over-Ear headphones are second best. If you lose sleep because of some outside noises, then an in-ear headphone can help you better listen to the ASMR sounds.

Price:

In-ear headphones are the cheapest of the three types of headphones on average, while a high-end pair of over-ear headphone can go for $300 – $500. For newbies, you can totally get started with your existing in-ear headphones, like an iPhone’s headphone.

Bluetooth or wired?

Audio quality: Wireless headphones generally have inferior audio quality compared to wired headphones, but this can depend on price range

Price: Wireless headphones are normally more expensive than wired headphones. when you’re paying $50-100 more for the same set of headphones—and the wired version works just as well.

Convenience: You have to charge the battery of the Bluetooth headphones, while you may feel the wires always in the way.

To be concluded: if it’s difficult for you to get your headphones charged, like while travelling, you should pick a wired headphone. While you regard comfort as the most important thing while enjoying ASMR sounds, a Bluetooth headband headphone is your best choice. For the listeners who are pursuing quality, a wired over-ear headphone is a must-have.
